The original idea was for her to have not been present at the time the Sparda family was attacked and separated. As a result, she didn't know what became of them until shortly before the events of DMC3 where she runs into Dante at a bar she sang at. Not too long after that came DMC3. If you want me to delve into detail about her involvement there, just ask

As for this one (which popped into my head after thinking about Hannibal Rising and dealing with some minor back-pain), it's based loosely off of the beginning of that and mostly from the DMC3 manga.

This time, she is with the Sparda family when they were attacked by demons. Dante hid as he was told (just like the manga), Eva died, and Julie and Vergil were captured. Much like with Hannibal and Mischa in Hannibal Rising, he cares for her while they're held captive. The two see their chance to escape when a demon-hunter bursts in and crashes the party. The two run off amid the chaos. The two do whatever they must to get by while enduring many hardships. The lack of charity and kindness from people, as well as trauma from the attack leave them with a bitter view of the world. With that, came the determination for power. As they grew older, they searched for it as they dreamed of a different world, suitable for them. They both knew that she had the soul of a powerful siren dwelling within her. Julie wished to utilize that power, although it wasn't really hers. After doing some research, Vergil finds a way for her to absorb Natalya' soul, thus taking her power. As it was a dangerous process, it had to be done slowly. This process was often painful, often leaving her bedridden. Vergil continued to care for her as he did some research on his own inheritance and the possibility of gaining the power of his father. Throughout these years, they grew closer and became a rather twisted couple. Julie still retained her somewhat childish nature, but her intentions were of a darker sort. During the events of the manga, she begins to worry about Vergil and the involvement of this mysterious man-turned-demon Arkham... While she wished for the success of Vergil's endeavors, she also feared for his life.

"I know what it is that you're trying to do, but it would mean nothing if you weren't here to share it with me."

That about sums it up... oh and Alice hates her guts 'cause she's a full grown woman with a boyfriend (and naturally she'd be attractive. Sirens tend to do that). In other words, Julie has everything she sold her soul to try to get.
